How to Get Involved with 5-a-Side in South London

If you’re looking to dust off the old boots and make an attempt to get back to the form you were once at, then the obvious choice is to get into a 5-a-side league. Without the continual 90 minute intensity of an 11-a-side game, 5-a-side is a great way to remain playing even into your later years. Having said that there is still a competitive element and most leagues will have more than one division to compete in. The chances are you’ll still find someone who hangs on to former glory in the shape of semi-pro trials he had when he was 15 (it was me).

Goals Bexleyheath – Bexleyheath

Actually located on the Bexleyheath School grounds it offers nine 5-a-side pitches and two 7-a-side synthetic pitches. These football courts offer coaching sessions, so if you need to work on your technique before you play then this can be arranged. There are a range of tournaments and leagues to participate in so you’ll find something for any standard. They also have a sports lounge that shows all the live football you could want to see or not see if you’re a Chelsea fan (like me).

Powerleague – Croydon

The Powerleague in Croydon proudly boasts of 12 state of the art 5G 5-a-side pitches (the difference with 5G being the artificial grass is fully rubber crumb infills). The high quality pitches combined with the floodlighting systems means that there is potential here to play football all year round. The venue also has the capabilities to put on corporate events and if the day doesn’t go your way, you’ll be pleased to know there is a bar.

Haka Sports Complex – Bromley

The Haberdashers’ Aske’s Knights Academy, kindly abbreviated to the Haka Sports Complex. Sutton Life Centre - Sutton

The name might lure you into concluding that this isn’t a venue that’s going to fulfil you’re sporting requirements, however, you would be wrong. Despite being the home of a public library and a eco-garden; it also houses a 5-a-side football area. The pitch is floodlit and is made of an all-weather terrain (no excuses) and it’s available for booking weekday evenings and full weekend hire.

Goals Wimbledon – New Malden

If you happen to be a fan of goals then you’re in luck because they’re fairly well dispersed around the city. Including this venue in Wimbledon, well it’s actually in New Malden but its noisy neighbour gets the titling glory. Here you will find a wonderful opportunity to show the talent you’ve been harnessing from a young age on their 10 synthetic grass 5-a-side pitches.
