Best Tennis Courts in Islington

When Wimbledon Fever Strikes, Where can you Play Tennis In Islington?

If like a lot of people you find yourself drawn to tennis for one month a year, usually (always) around Wimbledon time. Then you should take full advantage of this and head down to your local court to get working on that Federer one handed backhand. If none of your friends share the optimism then head to Openplays connect platform and search for other people looking to play tennis in the area. Wimbledon is not just the oldest Tennis tournament on earth it’s also the most prestigious, it’s achieved this by upholding all of their traditions. Their traditions include, most famously the all-white dress code, strawberries and cream, Royal Patronage and queueing to get tickets on the day. However, what if you don’t live in Wimbledon and you fancy a game of tennis in Central London instead. Then you should look at this list of venues in the area.

Finsbury Park Tennis Club – Islington/Hackney

Finsbury Park Tennis Club is operated by the Access to Sport project and partners with Haringey Council. What this means to the average tennis player is that these courts are bookable for a very reasonable fee, £6 per hour for adults and £3 an hour for children. That combined with the easy nature of the online booking system means that you have absolutely no excuses for not going out there and having a go. If you wanted to take it a little bit more seriously then they also offer coaching sessions and a competitive league.

Islington Tennis Centre - Islington

Unsurprisingly this tennis centre is located in Islington, specifically on Market Road. The facilities here are fantastic and they boast 6 indoor courts meaning that there is no excuse for not playing all year round. It’s also home to 2 flood lit outdoor courts which happen to be much cheaper to hire than their indoor counterparts. Because of these great facilities Islington has become one of the most active tennis centres in the Country. If you’re looking to make a booking then give them a call on 020 3793 6880.

Haverstock School - Camden

Haverstock School is a lovely school based in Camden dedicated to being an integral part of the community. Part of their large sport facilities include 3 tennis courts on a floodlit second generation astroturf. These courts are perfect for summer evening knocks with friends  and the Chalk Farm tube station is located opposite, so you can afford to have a few drinks afterwards (not in the school). Luckily this venue is easily bookable through our online booking systems which you’ll find if you follow the link below.

Camden Town Sports Pitch - Camden

Conveniently located just a two minute walk away from the Kentish Town West Station you'll find the Camden Town sport pitches. With 3 football pitches, 4 netball courts and 4 tennis courts there is a lot of sport going on at this venue, all of which are played on floodlit open-air tarmac. All the courts are bookable but there are also pay and play sessions run on Friday from 6.30pm – 9.30pm and both days on the weekend from 10am – 3pm. Currently bookings are made over the phone so give them a call on 020 7482 7397.
