With so many young broods brooding in the borough, there is high demand for sports coaching and activities for every age, and tennis is no exception.  When it comes to l'activities de tennis and affordable lessons, Islington doesn't miss a shot.  The Islington Tennis Centre is one of the busiest facilities in the city and is famous for its vibrant and talented community.  The people of Islington have chosen their borough brilliantly and have plenty of reason to celebrate their victory by adorning their finest whites and their best visors.

Finsbury Park Tennis Coaching

In association with Finsbury Park Sports and Haringey Council, the courts and coaching programmes are operated by The Access to Sports Project.  All of the coaches are registered with the LTA, are CRB checked and deliver fun tennis lessons that develop the overall technique and level of players.  Adults can increase their skills and social activity by joining in with the Park’s weekend social tennis.  Beginners and intermediate players are catered for separately so each can play with those of a similar standard.  Beginner classes are held on Saturdays and Sundays from 12 to 1pm, Intermediates can attend either day from 1 to 2pm and Advanced Intermediate (looking to improve advanced stroke technique and tactical play) is held on Saturday from 2 to 3pm.  Wednesday classes are also available for beginners (6 to 7pm) and intermediates (7 to 8pm).  Rackets and equipment are supplied, so all you have to do is turn up!  A 5-week course is £35 or you can pay a £10 drop-in fee per session (check if there is availability beforehand).  Junior coaching is held on weekends at 10am for ages 6-9 year olds and at 11am fo 10-13 year olds.  As part of the council’s scheme to get more youths involved in sport, 13-19 year olds can attend free lessons between 11am and 1pm on Saturdays.  The courses focus on all round tennis technique including forehand, backhand, volley and serve.  Rackets and equipment are provided.  Seasonal camps and holiday programmes are also organised for juniors.  

 

Islington Tennis Centre

With 2 outdoor and 6 indoor courts, the ITC is a popular spot during the rainier months and throughout the year.  Tennis lessons are conducted by highly experienced and qualified coaches, all of whom are registered with the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) and are CRB checked.  Adults can choose to get involved with serious, competitive coaching classes or participate in drop-in social lessons, for a more relaxed and laid back approach to the sport.  Social tennis ranges from fitness tennis workouts to Mixed Doubles lessons.  Mini Tennis offers an exciting and stimulating introduction to the sport for juniors aged between 4 and 7 years old.  There are also classes for 7-9 years and 9-11 years.  The Junior Squad is open to players of exceptional potential who are spotted and invited by the coaches.  The centre also runs Teen Tennis courses, spanning 6 week periods, which are open to any level of teen player and places emphasis on the fun of the game.  Tennis classes, run by the GLL, are affordable and available every day of the week for a range of players.

 

Highbury Fields Tennis

The Fields boasts boast 11 courts, 7 of which are graced with floodlighting.  All of the resident coaches are professionally qualified, with CRB, and are licenced by the LTA.  The courts and lessons are run under the management of the GLL, so sessions and bookings are extremely affordable; adult pay £7.50 per lesson, whilst juniors are charged only a fiver.  Each lesson, regardless of age or standard, is infinitely structured to ensure optimum progression and enjoyment.  The centre operates a “rolling” programme system, wherein anyone is welcome to join in with lessons at any point throughout the term.  For adults, social drop-in sessions inject a dose of fitness and sporting enthusiasm into their routine, whilst all the while being in the company of enthusiastic, like-minded people.  The social classes range from Mixed Doubles sessions to Cardio Tennis.  Juniors can begin their tennis journey at the age of 3 and continue in the youth programmes until they turn 18.  The Fields focus on creating confident players, both during play and socially, that demonstrate agility, coordination and a high skill level.  The centre’s online Home Portals allow for players to track their progress, book lesson and pay conveniently online.
