Best Football Pitches For Hire in Bedford

Bedford can be found just north of central Bedfordshire in the East of England.  It is a market town that runs along the embankment of the River Great Ouse, which provides a lovely route for a summer stroll.  Despite its traditional English town appearance, the borough has a cosmopolitan culture with a diverse population of Italians, Asians and Eastern Europeans.  The borough has a fantastic selection of outdoor pitches, mostly found in public parks and run by the Bedford Borough Council.  The pitches are either free or cheap to rent and are overall in commendable condition.  

Bedford Park

Bedford Park, found in North Bedford, is a green flag park with three full sized grass pitches suitable for eleven-a-side play.  Parking around the park is free.  To book the pitches phone 01234351115.

Addison Howard Park

Addison Howard Park is run by the Borough Council and has a great range of pitches available for public use.  The five-a-side football pitch is free to use all year round and there is an eleven-a-side pitch available September to May.  The park has recently undergone improvements, with a drainage system put in place for more playable pitches.  The pitches can be booked on the Bedford Borough website.

Hillgrounds Recreation Ground

Hillgrounds Recreation Grounds has a plethora of great sports pitches to choose from as well as on site changing rooms.  There are 4 full sized pitches, 2 junior pitches and 5 mini pitches all of which can be booked by phoning the Bedford Borough council on 01234 35115.  Unfortunately there are no changing rooms on site, nor is there free parking.

Mowsbury Park

Mowsbury Park contains more sports pitches than any other park in Bedford or Kempston.  The site comprises of 7 senior football pitches, 2 junior, 3 mini football pitches, a junior rugby pitch and five cricket squares.  The site was regraded and a new land drainage system was put in place to minimize the effects of bad weather.  The pitches are now much more reliable surfaces to play on and can be booked via the bedford.gov website.

Russell Park

Russell Park sits on the Embankment and is known for its herbaceous gardens.  The park also works a fantastic recreation space and provides a number of sports pitches.  Call the council on 01234351115 to hire a pitch.
