The Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park is the ultimate destination for active youngsters and adults alike. Developed thanks to the London 2012 Games, the Park provides huge opportunity both to Londoners and those further afield to get fit and have fun. There are endless activities to enjoy in a variety of event stadiums and venues: there’s the London Stadium, the Aquatics Centre, the VeloPark and much more, as well as a huge range of beautiful, serene parklands and waterways, cafes and playgrounds. Here five of the best sports classes you can sign up for at the Olympic Park this August:
Hula Hoop Dance and Fitness
For a rather unusual but hugely entertaining dance class, join the Hula Fitness session! You will learn how to spin a hula hoop all over your body like a pro, as well as some funky moves that are sure to impress… No experience is required!
Cost: Free
Time and Location: Timber Lodge Café, Monday 6-7pm
Football and Fitness Development
Perfect for you and your child, this is particularly aimed at parents with children between 6 and 13 year. Improve both your coordination and your knowledge of the beautiful game with this integrated football and fitness session, incorporating the WHU Academy Football Philosophy.
Cost: Free
Time and Location: Hopkins Field, Monday 5-6:30pm
Tennis
The Hackney Tennis club offers a range of different adult and junior classes across 5 areas of London. Whether you want to start from scratch, work on a particular aspect of your tennis game or simply have a ball – the Hackney club will help you find a class to suit you! There are social sessions and drop-ins as well as more structured classes available. Search OpenPlay’s portal to book.
Cost: £3 per hour for juniors/Structured coaching programmes for adults are between £55-£60
Time and Location: there are 5 different court locations with a range of both morning and afternoon times available, depending on your needs
Bootcamp
For those who love a rigorous, high-energy and fast-paced exercise routine, Bootcamp is ideal! You will be spurred on to greatness by both your instructor and the other Bootcampers around you, and feel completely invigorated (as well as exhausted!) afterwards. Push yourself to new heights and have fun doing it.
Cost: Free
Time and Location: London Aquatics Centre, Tuesday 7-8pm
This Girl Can Swim
A unique swimming class for all the ladies out there, this session is reserved just for girls and women and is both a social and instructive class. It’s a fun and engaging way to improve swimming technique in a warm and friendly environment – whether you come along with your daughter or your best girlfriends, it’s a great way to splash about and get fit at the same time!
Cost: £6 for Members, £12 for Non-Members
Time and Location: London Aquatics Centre, 12-1pm
