Area guide: Kensington & Chelsea

The London borough of Kensington an Chelsea is one of the most prestigious London boroughs. Famous residents are too numerous to mention, but include the likes of Rowan Atkinson, Robbie Williams, Richard Branson and Bernie Ecclestone. It is the borough of the super rich and if ever two cars colide together you are likely to hear local residents referring to such an event as a 'creche'. Space is certainly a premium within the borough with large parts of it reserved for residents only in exclusive estates. However there are still some fantastics areas to play sport and generally very well maintained sports facilities in Chelsea & Kensington.

Activities in Kensington & Chelsea

The best leisure centre in Chelsea is the aptly named Chelsea Sports Centre which has been recently refurbished to a high standard. Kensington Leisure Centre has a 20m teaching pool with mobile floor, an eight-court multi-use sports hall, two Squash courts and two fitness studios. Parks in K & C are harder to come by, but Holland Park has cricket nets, tennis courts, a cricket pitch, 11 a side football pitches and even golf nets. Emslie Horniman's Pleasance
is home to two 5 a side and one 7 a side floodlit Astroturf pitches whilst Avondale Park also has a floodlit 5 a side football pitch for hire.

Not to be discounted are some of the schools in Kensington & Chelsea as some of these have facilities for hire. Chelsea Academy and Holland Park schools are very good examples with sports hall and state-of-the-art 3G football pitches. St Luke's Gardens also has two hidden 5 a side football pitches with floodlights. So whilst Kensington & Chelsea isn't inundated with parks and open spaces, there are still plenty of facilities and activities taking place within the borough.
